Emerald & Blush
A color scheme often used for weddings, there’s none prettier than emerald and blush. These colors create feelings of health and happiness. The pink tone is youthful, something we’d see in flushed cheeks or budding roses. The shade of green is bright and lively, appropriately named for the gemstone. We only need to look to nature to see how beautiful the blend can be.
How to Decorate with Emerald and Blush
Lucky for us, it’s easy to bring this charming color combination indoors. Many home decor items can be found in emerald and blush, and the right mix can make your home feel like a romantic English garden.
The classic black and white frame of this picture and its central rose go well with many other things, including the faux foliage next to it.
The rose print also goes well with this garden clock, floral wing backed chair, and India influenced wine rack.
Keep Backdrops Neutral
The backdrops of emerald and blush should be neutral when possible. I recommend painting most walls in your home a bright white so that there’s always a clean canvas to work with when changing decor.
You’ll often see pictures with blush and emerald framed in black, but a classic wooden frame also works well. This portrait of a lady belonged to my mother and used to hang in her vanity. It’s a print in the style of Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun who was the portraitist of Marie Antoinette. The French style dress, lace, and pearls are of that same time. What makes it look like Vigée is the straw hat and the subtle landscape painted behind the sitter. I’m not sure who is the actual artist or sitter, please tell me in the comments if you have an idea.
Shades of Pink
Emerald goes well with other shades of pink, such as magenta or rose. The calming characteristic of green makes it one of the easiest colors to blend with others. It makes us think of harmony and growth in nature. All colors occurring naturally on flowers will also appeal to the eye inside the home.
Note: Bright red should be avoided, except of course, during the holidays.
Area Rugs & Curtains
You can change an entire room by changing the curtains. The main color on these curtains is a celery green. The blush and emerald colors appear on the the floral pattern.
Another way to make a big change in color and decor is adding a decorative rug. A large area rug makes a room feel cozier. It can also help differentiate rooms in open concept style homes. This emerald and blush rug works well with the similar colored picture and lamp.
Pierre Auguste Renoir
Renoir was a master of color and impressionistic art. He often painted his rosy cheeked friends in nature scenes. The woman with the dog is said to be his wife. Any work of Renoir’s would be a beautiful addition to a space with an emerald and blush theme.
If you have a favorite artist and own multiple works, its good to display them all, even with different color themes. A good decorating tip for bookshelves is placing books with pretty covers in front of the others. Renoir is one of my favorites and I’m glad at the opportunity to display him again in my china cabinet bookcase.
Notes on Emerald & Blush
Home decorating is about creating visual harmony. We can look to nature for ideas on how to appeal to the eye. Use emerald and blush to create an indoor garden full of charm and romance. You can easily add large amounts of these colors with an area rug or curtains. If you have pictures with emerald and blush, place them against a neutral white wall, and use a black or wooden frame. Your space should be a place of beauty and reflection. Use emerald and blush to help you in this endeavor.
